Employment and training

Connect with the labour market

The Mower Shed

The Mower Shed is our primary social enterprise, providing garden and green space maintenance services.

The Mower Shed provides employment, job readiness training and mentoring. Since 2016, we have played a valuable role in transitioning over 85% of our casual staff onto other employment pathways and training.

The Mower Shed offers a variety of employment and training opportunities, in collaboration with our partners, including:

  • Apprenticeships in gardening and landscaping
  • Studies in horticulture
  • Building and construction training
  • Security training
  • Studies in fitness
  • Community services training
  • Employment in facilities management

The SPARK training and employment initiative will take a break between July 2023 and June 2024 and will not offer programs while on this break.

First established in 2016 by the Ginninderry Joint Venture, SPARK Training and Employment is a unique initiative that was born out of Ginninderry’s commitment to improving the education, social, and economic outcomes of the Capital Region community.

SPARK partners with Registered Training Organisations, non-government organisations, and employers to deliver a range of engagement, training and employment initiatives designed to help people take the next step in life. Programs are particularly for people who are disconnected from the labour market.

SPARK delivers programs across the capital region in a range of industries, including: Construction, Early Childhood Education and Care, Disability Support, Information Technology, Civil Construction and Conservation Land Management. Each program has a dedicated SPARK Relationship Manager who journeys alongside each participant providing ongoing support before, during and after the completion of programs.
