This next week is National Children’s Week and there are heaps of events all over Canberra to participate in. The program can be found at: http://www.actchildrensweek.com.au/downloads/2015%20Children’s%20Week%20Program.pdf
Here are some of the ways you can participate locally though our Kippax community:This Sunday – we invite you, your children, grandchildren and any others you chose to bring along – to the ‘Blessing of our Children’ service at 9.45am. This will be a simple time of telling our children how much they mean to us, praying for them and blessing them and their families.
- The 8:30 and 10:30 services will follow on with our season of Justice, and the Strategy team will lead us as we explore the special place of Children in the Community of Christ.
- The ACT Playgroup Association is running PlayFEST on Tuesday October 27, 10am – 1pm at Cook Community Hub, 41 Templeton Street Cook. There will be free children’s entertainment and information and activities from community, business and sporting groups. For more information check out www.playgroupaustralia.com.au/act.
- ‘Children’s Week Stories with Holly’ will be held on Tuesday October 27, 4pm – 4.40pm at UnitingCare Kippax. Holly will be performing a storytelling programme for Kindergarten to Year 4 students. Come along and hear some engaging and humorous stories from around the world. Put down your iPad and settle down for a story. For further information, check out www.facebook.com/hollysonceuponarhyme.
- On Thursday October 29, 10am – 12pm, there will be a free National Children’s Week Celebration at Belconnen Community Centre Hall, Swanson Court, Belconnen. There will be face painting, a jumping castle, tumbling equipment, music and dance, a reading corner, art and craft, morning tea and information for parents. This event is delivered in partnership between UnitingCare Kippax, Belconnen Community Service, West Belconnen Child & Family Centre, Southern Cross Early Childhood School, St Thomas Aquinas Primary School and Therapy ACT.
I hope you take the opportunity to share in some of these wonderful community events.
And, on a different note, don’t forget … our next MONSTER GARAGE SALE is Saturday October 31, 8am to 1pm!
It is a great way to grab a bargain and enjoy a morning out. If you have goods to donate – GREAT!
We accept stuff: Wed 1pm-9pm, Thu 9:30am – 9pm, Fri 9:30am – 6pm
We can do pickups: Wed 5pm-8pm, Thu 9:30am-8pm, Fri 9:30am-7pm
We are unable to store much on site prior to that, but would love your goods from Wednesday onwards.
If you, or your friend, can volunteer to help with furniture pick ups, or sales on the day, or packing up, please let us know: firstname.lastname@example.org . We are needing more volunteers so please consider giving some your time.
This is a significant community event and fund-raiser, that enables many people in our community to purchase goods they could not otherwise afford. It is also a great way to re-use old items you no longer want (but somebody else may love!). And it’s such fun!
Please join us on October 31.
