Gordon’s Weekly Message

This week we welcome back the Young Families of the congregation who were away last week at the annual camp “Acting Up”. We look forward to hearing more over time of the great experiences that camp brought. We also welcome back people who have been traveling and escaping some of the cold of Canberra’s early winter over last week’s long weekend.

Firstly – THANK YOU!! There has been such a great response for our Emergency Financial and Material Aid program. Throughout June we are specifically looking for donations of toiletries. Last Sunday the response was incredible. Every item that comes in makes a difference to those who are struggling with making ends meet. Additional support in this area throughout the rest of June will continue to build the way we can make a difference. Thank you

This Sunday we start a focus in the season of discipleship.

In 830 and 1030 we will be looking at “starting small”, and using some inspiration from our community garden and Cornel West.

In the 945 service we are going to be “warmed by the Spirit”. Please bring some gloves, beanies, scarves, jackets or other “warming” clothing to help us create the right sense of warmth 🙂

Today Meg, Gordon and one of our UnitingCare service users, Mark, appeared before the ACT Estimates Committee looking at the recent ACT Budget. Earlier this week, Meg appeared before another ACT Estimates Committee regarding the impact of gambling on people in the ACT. It is part of the way that we are responding to the call to create a loving nurturing community, using the spheres of influence that we have.

Thanks again – I look forward to seeing you again soon
